ASAP, the After School Arts Program, connects underserved 1st-8th grade students attending Des Moines Public Schools with arts experiences. Visit our website for details. We need volunteers this summer to help with our programming! No art experience necessary, just a willingness to help children engage with the activities.
Activities (led by Teaching Artists) could include painting, sculpture, breakdance, drama games/improv, fiber art, and more. Everyone helps with loading/unloading supplies, set up, and clean up, so wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty. You will assist participants with studio art projects and help with pouring paint, operating hot glue guns, getting students from one studio to another, and engaging students with their projects. Sign up for one day or all five! It’s always more fun with a friend – feel free to invite others!
