#BeeBlitz

Details

We need volunteers Green Iowa’s first #BeeBlitz, in partnership with The Honeybee Conservancy! What is a #BeeBlitz? Participating in a #BeeBlitz is a simple and easy way to help scientists learn more about the bees in your local community. All you have to do is show up with your phone and be ready for a bee hunting adventure! We will take pictures of all the bees we find and upload them to the iNaturalist app, which will identify the species for us. The information we gather can then be used by scientists to help protect endangered bees!

What do you need to bring? A phone with a camera and the iNaturalist app (free), comfortable walking shoes, hat, sunscreen, and your enthusiasm for nature!

Who should come? Everyone is invited to participate. Although we will be observing bees from a distance and the chance of stinging is very low, please consult your doctor before coming if you are allergic to bee stings.

Why? Contributing to a #BeeBlitz is a great way to spend time outdoors, exploring nature, and learning more about the area you live in, while helping scientists figure out how to protect valuable local bees!

Where? Meet in front of the Franklin Avenue Library–we’re going to go around the Waveland Trail, with special focus on the restored prairie areas.
