Love trails? We need you!
Des Moines is a great place to bike, walk, and run. With the help of hundreds of volunteers annually stationed at locations throughout the city, we participate in a nationwide bicyclist and pedestrian counting effort. The project uses standardized methodology which helps us estimate trail users. All you have to do is count people on a clipboard in 15 minute intervals and hand out small cards to those that stop for them to take a survey (it’s a QR code for them to do later).
We need volunteers to help make this a success and “adopt” a location! Volunteers are rewarded with $10 Bike Ped Bucks if they volunteer for one shift or a free Des Moines Mayor’s Annual Ride and Run registration for volunteering for two or more shifts. Most locations will work best with two volunteers (one counting and one distributing survey cards), so we encourage you to sign up with family or a friend for even more fun! All supplies and a brief training are provided.
