Volunteers are the heart of the Variety Telethon. We offer “behind the scenes” volunteer opportunities the weekend of our broadcast. Shifts are available throughout Telethon weekend, unless otherwise noted. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old; volunteers who are 14-15 are able to volunteer when accompanied by an adult.
Since 1975, Iowans have joined together to contribute their time, talent and hearts to the annual Variety Telethon. Telethon is an entertainment showcase that serves as Variety’s largest fundraiser. Working alongside the Telethon cast, thousands of volunteers take pledges over the phones and solicit donations from family and friends.
The Variety Telethon is broadcast live on Local 5 – WeAreIowa from 7 p.m. to midnight on Saturday and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
